So many families are reluctant to hire a photographer because they feel unnatural in front of a camera. It’s scary and wouldn’t be worth it to smile awkwardly and then be reminded of how terrible it was for forever. These are my favorite type of client. They don’t realize it, but I am MORE awkward than them. Once they see what a goof ball I am, they tend to be at ease. When the kid won’t smile or isn’t comfortable in front of the camera, I ask them, “wouldn’t it be fun if you gathered up as much grass as possible and throw it at me?” Man, that even sounds fun to me! Sunset came early, but the clouds parted and gave us some wonderful light leaks. This was only my second photo shoot at Ala Moana Beach Park in Honolulu, HI, and both of them turned out amazing pictures!
Ko'olina is located on the west side of Oahu and is most famous for its man-made coves along the coast. The water in the Ko'olina coves is calm because it is barricaded from the ocean with walls of rock. Since it is westward facing, it also receives great views of the sunset. It is a perfect spot for kids and other weak swimmers, or just beach-goers that don't want to be burdened by adventure seekers. It's also tucked away in a sea of hotels, so it remains relatively underpopulated.
Or should I say that West Loch is an amazing *LOCH*ation! Ok ok, puns are not my strong suit, but practice makes perfect, right?
